Biography

Wow, how the world changes from day to day. This must be the hundredth time I had to write about myself and every time it seems harder to describe who I am. Here it is in short form.

I am a thinker

My mind races over some of the smallest ideas. I attack subjects from all angles and it tends to keep me up at night. I like to research a broad range of topics that sometimes have no relations to what my goals are, but in the end seem to help dramatically. I am an information junkie, but not in the Jeopardy sense.

If it blinks and beeps, I got to have it

I am a gadget junkie, but not obsessed (unless you ask my wife). I definitely enjoy technology though. Some of the gadgets I own are the Cowon iAudio X5 mp3 player, HTC 6700 PDA Cell Phone iPhone, Canon Rebel XT, and MacBook Pro 15”. There are plenty of more where they came from, but I don’t need the world to know. Am I paranoid? Maybe a little.

Fermentation and Lightation

I admire the art of fermentation, distilling, and aging. I think it has something to do with the attention to the details and extreme patience it takes to be a great craftsman. I enjoy quality wines, craft beers, and cigars. I am a home wine maker and home brewer. Follow my fermentation and lightation adventures over in my Partake section. I also have a brewing blog called Basement Brewing.

Waste not, grow a lot

I enjoy gardening. I enjoy all the aspects of it. The hard work pays for itself when the buds start breaking and flowers start blooming. Though I am not necessarily on the Al Gore bandwagon for global warming, I do my best to reuse my waste. I have a pretty large compost pile where all my food and yard waste are reused as food for my lawn and garden. I avoid chemical fertilizers and believe in the art of organic gardening. Next spring, I plan to start worm farming. Yes I am a nerd.

Turn me up in the headphones

I take pleasure in music. I love listening to all types of different styles and genres. I don’t have one favorite, but I can say my top 3 are Rock, Hip-Hop, and Electronica. I also enjoy making music. I play Guitar, Bass, and Keyboards. When I create music, I tend to go very electronic. I also DJed for many years. I spun Drum and Bass on the east coast of the USA and was lucky enough to spin with some of the best such as Grooverider, Aphrodite, SoulSlinger, L Double, Phantom 45, Notorious J, J. Smooth, DJ Dara, Perfect Combination, Source Direct, Konflict, Footloose and MC. Skibadee. I played bass a band named Beanhead. One day we will get the band back together. We were huge in Holland.

I am the Senior Manager of SEO at GSI Interactive (a division of GSI Commerce), though most of my career I wrote code. I am a proponent of web standards, open source, and emerging web development techniques. I have worked on sites ranging from a few hundred dollar brochure site to a few million dollars portal integration, but nothing is more engaging then creating your own projects. For this, I have created my first start up company: Vivifly. As you will see, we are still starting up.

Who’s your daddy?

Finally, I am a husband and a father. I was married in the fall of 2004 to my beautiful wife Christy and had my first child Jocelyn in the summer of 2006
