Bye Bye Comcast, Hello FiOS

Yesterday afternoon I received a knock on the door from a Verizon FiOS representative. I have been curious on some of their deals and how it would affect my bill, but I haven’t acted on anything as of then. I have seen the commercials for FiOS and have a couple neighbors who made the switch. My neighbors couldn’t be happier.

The Verizon rep went over my Comcast and Verizon bills and broke it down to show me that I will be saving over $80 a month. Not only will I be saving, I will get a much faster internet connection and more HD programing. And to top it all off, I will be receiving a free 19” LCD High Definition Television.

I’m not a Verizon fan boy, but I love that I now have a choice for cable TV. I definitely don’t like Comcast since they are now stifling bandwidth and blocking some applications protocols on their paying customers high speed internet connections. Verizon may one day do the same, but since they are the under-dogs, they are opened up and going full throttle.

To me it is a no brainer. I made the switch. I am saving lots of money, getting a free HDTV, and will be receiving a faster, less restrictive internet connection. I get it installed at the beginning of December. So bye bye Comcast and hello FiOS.

I’ve been thinking about ditching Comcast, too. We are paying over 100 per month for cable TV/internet. Does the FiOS work well with gaming systems? What is the monthly fee?

I get FiOS installed on Wednesday, but I am positive it works fine with gamins systems. They are supplying a wireless router that is 802.11 a/b/g/n. My Macbook is 802.11n so my connection will be smoking fast. Unlike Comcast, FiOS is a dedicated line. Comcast has speeds “Up To” 10MB, but if there is a lot of traffic in your area it will likely be slow. Friends I know who made the switch are amazed at the speed of it. I am not sure of the pricing. I will be paying $150 for TV/Internet/Phone. I have all channels minus HBO and Cinemax on 4 TV’s with DVR and HDTV on 2. The Internet connection is 15mb/2mb and the phone is unlimited local and long distance. My similar package with Comcast on only 1 TV and no Phone was $150 a month. Plus my phone which was around $80. So I am saving. I will post back next week sometime about the system and and the internet once it is installed.
