Privacy Policy for Title Tune Chrome Extension
Effective Date: May 8, 2025
Introduction
Welcome to Title Tune ("the Extension"), provided by [Your Name or Company Name]. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and disclose information when you use our Chrome Extension.
By installing and using Title Tune, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
Information We Collect
Title Tune is designed to function with minimal data collection. The information handled by the extension includes:
- User-Provided API Keys: To enable communication with third-party AI services (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google AI), you must provide your own API keys for these services within the Extension's Options page.
- User Configuration Settings: We store your preferences, such as:
- Selected AI models to use.
- Custom instructions provided for the AI.
- AI temperature setting.
- Selected number of SERP results to analyze.
- Selected Google Search Language (`hl` parameter).
- SERP Data (Temporary): When you activate the extension on a Google Search Results Page (SERP), the content script temporarily accesses the titles, links, and potentially snippets of the search results displayed on that specific page to perform its analysis function. This data is processed for the immediate task and is not stored long-term by the extension itself.
- Bulk Keyword List (Temporary): When using the bulk analysis feature, the list of keywords you provide is used to perform searches and subsequent analysis. This list is processed during the bulk operation and is not stored long-term after the operation is completed or stopped (unless kept in the UI text area by the user).
We do NOT collect:
- Your personal browsing history (beyond the specific SERP being analyzed when you actively use the extension).
- Personally Identifiable Information (PII) like your name, email address (unless you provide it for contact), or IP address through the extension itself.
- Credentials for your Google, OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google AI accounts (only the API keys you provide).
How We Use Your Information
The information handled by Title Tune is used solely for the following purposes:
- To Provide Core Functionality:
- API Keys: Used exclusively to authenticate requests sent directly from your browser (via the extension's background script) to the corresponding third-party AI services (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google AI) that you have selected and provided a key for. This is necessary to generate the AI title suggestions.
- Configuration Settings: Used to customize the extension's behavior and tailor the prompts sent to the AI services according to your preferences.
- SERP Data: Analyzed locally within the background script to identify top terms. These terms, along with your custom instructions and settings, are then sent as part of the prompt to the selected AI services to generate relevant title suggestions.
- Bulk Keyword List: Used to sequentially perform Google searches and initiate the analysis process for each keyword provided.
- To Store Preferences: User configuration settings and API keys are stored locally using `chrome.storage.sync` to allow your preferences to persist across browser sessions.
Data Storage and Security
- Local Storage: All user-provided API keys and configuration settings are stored locally on your computer using the `chrome.storage.sync` API provided by Google Chrome. This means the data is associated with your Chrome profile and syncs if you have Chrome sync enabled, but it is not stored on our servers.
- Security: We rely on the security measures provided by the Google Chrome browser and its storage APIs. However, please be aware that you are responsible for the security and confidentiality of your own API keys. Treat them like passwords. We recommend generating keys with limited permissions if possible and revoking them if compromised. The extension sends API keys directly to the respective service providers over HTTPS.
Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do not sell, trade, or rent your information to others. However, data is shared in the following specific ways as part of the extension's core functionality:
- AI Service Providers: When you initiate an analysis, the relevant SERP data (e.g., top analyzed terms), your custom instructions, and configuration settings (like temperature) are sent to the third-party AI services (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google AI) that you have selected and provided API keys for. This is necessary to generate title suggestions. Your interaction with these services is governed by their respective privacy policies:
We do not control the data handling practices of these third parties. Please review their policies.
- Google Search: The bulk analysis feature navigates your browser to perform Google searches based on the keywords you provide. Your interaction with Google Search is subject to Google's Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
Other than the direct API calls initiated by user action to the selected AI providers, no other data is shared with third parties.
User Rights and Choices
- Access and Modification: You can access, modify, or clear your stored API keys and configuration settings at any time via the extension's Options page.
- Deletion: Clearing the API key fields and saving effectively removes them from storage. Uninstalling the extension will remove all data stored by it via `chrome.storage.sync` and `chrome.storage.local`.
Children's Privacy
Title Tune is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and potentially updating the version number or noting changes within the extension. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes are effective when they are posted on this page.
